Naar Oost-Europees voorbeeld zal de eerste editie van het Eurora Festival “Oost West Burlesk” plaatsvinden in de sfeer van een koude winterse revolutie, hand in hand met warme saamhorigheid. Steekwoorden voor de Nederlandse tijdgeest zijn regelgeving, begrenzing en ernst. Wij overleven door nuchterheid en de zoektocht naar consensus, ofwel het bekende poldermodel. In Oost-Europa heeft men een totaal andere overlevingskunst ontwikkeld: de tragikomische kijk op het leven die in dat ene woord burlesk te vangen is. Dit elementaire verschil maakt een spontane uitwisseling van kunst in al zijn vormen, van zienswijzen en gedachten, tot een meer dan boeiende belevenis die en passant de eigen waarheden ter discussie stelt. Vanuit de nieuwe Europese lidstaten zijn vooral de geïmmigreerde vaklieden zichtbaar, en de mensen die bereid zijn bollen te pellen of asperges te steken. Minder zichtbaar zijn de kunstenaars die zich hier hebben gevestigd en nog minder zichtbaar is de stand van zaken in kunst en cultuur in de herkomstlanden. Het is tijd juist deze kant van Oost-Europa in de schijnwerpers te zetten.

The first edition of Eurora Festival "East West Burlesque" will be held in a setting of a cold winter revolution, hand in hand with a warm solidarity. Rules, limitation and seriousness are the words that describe the Dutch spirit of our time. One survives through sobriety and the search of consensus. In eastern Europe people developed a totally different survival technique: the tragicomic look on life that, in one word, can be described as burlesque. This elementary difference makes for a spontaneous exchange of art in all its forms, of views and thoughts, and leads to an intense experience which questions ones own truth. From the new European member countries the most visible people are the migrant season workers. Less visible are the artists that have established themselves and yet less visible is the position of affairs in art and culture in the origin country. The time is right to put this aspect of Eastern Europe in the spotlight.
